▲Hand-bent after 3D printing, Oberdoerfer and Krebs' Bend chair (designboom.com)

There are some fun thermoforming techniques that use molds to reshape quick-printing flat designs. I've been meaning to try combining the technique with the method where you print onto tissue paper, cloth, or the like. It would make for a great demonstration for kids as you could print and form a flyable plane in a few minutes.

The Monobloc is like that, except the polymer strands are smaller than you can see.

This makes no sense. First, it’s ugly as hell. Second it looks just as labor intensive as a bent wood chair, which would be significantly nicer, more durable, and not break down into micro plastics.

I think anyone who fabricates a chair like that should be forced to use it for a couples of days as a chair.

Art does not have to be practical
nancyminusone 60 minutes ago [-]
Yes, but a chair is practical. I'd say that an artistic chair you can't sit in is no chair at all, but merely a chair shaped object. Most art exhibitions do not allow me to test my theory in practice, so I am left wondering.

Agreed. And these objects are very striking visually. But if they are called chairs then let's see people sit on them.

Is it actually strong though? The kinks in the bends look like they'd fold up completely under moderate pressure.
